How to Close or Deactivate Your Rootsy Seller Account

If you no longer wish to sell on Rootsy, you can request to close your seller account.

Before closing your account, it's important to understand how account termination differs from subscription cancellation and what happens to outstanding orders, customer disputes, payouts, and other obligations.

This guide explains how to request account closure, prepare your store for termination, and understand what happens afterward.

1. Understanding Subscription Cancellation and Account Closure

Cancelling a subscription and closing a seller account are separate actions.

Subscription Cancellation

Ends your recurring seller subscription according to its billing terms. Subscription cancellation does not automatically resolve outstanding orders or other account obligations.

Seller Account Closure

Ends your seller relationship with Rootsy through the applicable account termination process.

Closing an account may affect selling access, product listings, and account services.

Important: Do not assume that cancelling your subscription automatically deletes your seller account.

2. How to Request Seller Account Closure

Rootsy's Seller Terms allow sellers to terminate their seller agreement by providing 30 days' written notice, subject to the subscription billing and cancellation terms.

To request closure:

  1. Review any outstanding customer orders, refunds, or disputes.

  2. Check your subscription and billing status.

  3. Review your seller balance and pending payouts.

  4. Contact Rootsy Customer Support.

  5. State clearly that you wish to terminate your seller account.

  6. Provide your registered store name and seller account email.

  7. Follow any additional instructions required to complete closure.

Email: support@rootsy.ca

Rootsy may need to review outstanding obligations before completing the process.

3. Is There a Self-Service Delete Account Button?

Account termination should be requested through Rootsy Customer Support unless a supported account-closure option is explicitly available in your dashboard.

Do not assume that deleting products, stopping sales, or cancelling a subscription permanently closes your account.

If you're unsure whether your account has been terminated, contact Rootsy Support for confirmation.

4. How Much Notice Is Required?

Under Section 25 of Rootsy's Seller Terms, either Rootsy or the seller may terminate the seller agreement with 30 days' written notice, subject to applicable subscription terms.

A termination request does not automatically remove existing contractual responsibilities.

Rootsy may also suspend, restrict, or terminate accounts immediately in circumstances specified in its Seller Terms, including serious security, legal, performance, or policy concerns.

5. What Happens to Your Seller Subscription?

Rootsy offers monthly and annual subscription plans.

Under Rootsy's Seller Terms:

Monthly Subscriptions

Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current monthly billing period.

Annual Subscriptions

Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current annual subscription term.

Subscription fees are generally non-refundable and non-prorated upon cancellation, unless required by law.

If you're closing your seller account, review your subscription separately and follow the applicable cancellation instructions.

Important: The 30-day seller agreement termination provision does not automatically override your subscription's billing and renewal terms.

6. What Should You Do Before Closing Your Account?

Before requesting closure, review the following:

  • Outstanding customer orders.

  • Products that have not yet shipped.

  • Pending returns and refunds.

  • Open customer disputes.

  • Chargebacks.

  • Pending seller withdrawals.

  • Outstanding marketplace commissions or fees.

  • Subscription renewal status.

  • Product listings currently available for purchase.

  • Business records you may need for accounting or taxes.

Contact Rootsy Support if you're unsure how an outstanding issue should be handled.

7. What Happens to Outstanding Customer Orders?

Closing your seller account does not automatically cancel orders that customers have already placed.

Sellers remain responsible for accepted orders under Rootsy's Seller Terms.

Before closing your account:

  1. Review your order history.

  2. Identify orders awaiting fulfilment.

  3. Prepare and ship eligible outstanding orders.

  4. Review applicable tracking information.

  5. Report any fulfilment problems promptly.

  6. Contact Rootsy Support if an order cannot be completed.

Do not stop fulfilling accepted orders simply because you've requested account termination.

8. What Happens to Pending Returns and Refunds?

Your obligations concerning eligible returns and refunds may continue after account cancellation or termination.

Before closure:

  1. Review open return requests.

  2. Respond within the applicable Rootsy deadlines.

  3. Cooperate with required product returns or inspections.

  4. Provide any requested evidence.

  5. Follow Rootsy's authorized refund process.

Rootsy's standard return-request window is generally 14 days from delivery, subject to applicable product conditions, marketplace policies, and consumer protection rights.

Account closure does not eliminate valid customer claims.

9. What Happens to Seller Earnings and Pending Payouts?

If you have an available or pending seller balance, review it before requesting closure.

Rootsy's Seller Terms allow payout holds, adjustments, reversals, or offsets in specified circumstances, including:

  • Unresolved refunds.

  • Chargebacks.

  • Customer disputes.

  • Unfulfilled orders.

  • Outstanding marketplace fees.

  • Negative balances.

  • Fraud or compliance concerns.

  • Other unresolved account obligations.

Account closure does not necessarily make all pending earnings immediately eligible for withdrawal.

Contact Rootsy Support for instructions concerning any remaining payouts.

10. What if You Have an Outstanding Balance?

Sellers remain responsible for amounts owed under Rootsy's Seller Terms, including applicable:

  • Marketplace commissions.

  • Subscription fees.

  • Seller-caused cancellation fees.

  • Refund obligations.

  • Chargeback adjustments.

  • Negative balances.

  • Other outstanding contractual obligations.

Terminating the seller relationship does not automatically waive unpaid amounts.

Rootsy may apply permitted financial adjustments according to its terms.

11. What Happens to Your Product Listings?

Closing or terminating your seller account may affect the availability of your product listings.

Rootsy may restrict, remove, hide, or otherwise manage listings as part of account termination and compliance procedures.

Before closure, review any pending orders associated with your listings.

Do not assume that deleting a product listing cancels existing customer purchases.

If you want to stop accepting new orders while completing existing obligations, contact Rootsy Support for guidance on the appropriate listing-management options.

12. Will Rootsy Delete All Your Information?

Account closure does not necessarily result in immediate deletion of all information associated with the seller account.

Rootsy may need to retain certain information for purposes such as:

  • Financial and tax recordkeeping.

  • Outstanding orders.

  • Refund and dispute investigations.

  • Legal and regulatory compliance.

  • Fraud prevention.

  • Contractual obligations.

Under Rootsy's Seller Terms, certain provisions and obligations continue after termination.

The Seller Terms also allow limited continued use of seller-uploaded content for specified operational, archival, legal, and platform purposes during a reasonable wind-down period, not exceeding 12 months under the relevant content-licence provision.

Personal information is handled in accordance with Rootsy's Privacy Policy and applicable law.

13. Can You Request Deletion of Personal Information?

You may contact Rootsy Customer Support to ask about the handling or deletion of personal information associated with your seller account.

Rootsy will review the request in accordance with its Privacy Policy and applicable legal obligations.

Some information may need to be retained for legitimate legal, regulatory, transaction, or recordkeeping purposes.

Important: Account termination and personal-information deletion are not necessarily the same process.

14. What if You Want to Stop Selling Temporarily?

You may not need to permanently close your seller account if you only want to stop selling for a limited period.

Depending on the available dashboard features, you may be able to manage product availability or inventory.

Before making changes:

  1. Review your active product listings.

  2. Check for outstanding orders.

  3. Consider your current subscription charges.

  4. Review the available product-management controls.

  5. Contact Rootsy Support if you need assistance.

Temporarily stopping sales does not necessarily pause subscription billing or other existing obligations.

15. Can Rootsy Suspend or Terminate a Seller Account?

Yes.

Under Rootsy's Seller Terms, Rootsy may suspend, restrict, or terminate seller accounts in circumstances including:

  • Fraud or suspicious activity.

  • Prohibited or unsafe products.

  • Repeated buyer complaints.

  • Excessive refunds or chargebacks.

  • Poor fulfilment performance.

  • Privacy misuse.

  • Unauthorized off-platform transactions.

  • Failure to provide required documentation.

  • Outstanding negative balances.

  • Legal or regulatory risks.

  • Violations of marketplace terms.

In specified circumstances, Rootsy may act immediately without advance notice.

16. What if Rootsy Suspends Your Account?

If your account is suspended or restricted:

  1. Review any notice provided by Rootsy.

  2. Identify the stated reason for the action, where available.

  3. Review relevant orders and outstanding obligations.

  4. Gather any requested documents.

  5. Contact Rootsy Customer Support for clarification.

  6. Follow the applicable review or corrective-action process.

Do not create another seller account to bypass an existing restriction or suspension.

Restoration of account access is not guaranteed.

17. Can You Reopen a Closed Seller Account?

Reopening or reactivating a closed seller account is not guaranteed.

If you wish to sell on Rootsy again:

  1. Contact Rootsy Customer Support.

  2. Provide your previous registered store name and email address.

  3. Explain that you wish to resume selling.

  4. Follow any account review, registration, or verification instructions.

Depending on the circumstances, Rootsy may require updated business information, identity verification, or subscription arrangements.

18. Keep Your Business Records

Before account closure, ensure you retain records needed for your business and applicable legal obligations.

These may include:

  • Sales transaction records.

  • Seller subscription charges.

  • Marketplace commissions.

  • Refunds and chargebacks.

  • Seller payouts.

  • Shipping and fulfilment records.

  • Tax-related records.

  • Relevant business agreements.

Sellers are responsible for meeting their own applicable accounting, tax, and record-retention requirements.

Contact a qualified accountant or tax professional if you need advice specific to your business.
