Welcome to Rootsy, a Canadian online marketplace connecting independent Canadian businesses with shoppers across Canada.
Whether you're starting a new business or expanding an existing one, Rootsy provides tools to create your online store, list products, manage orders, and receive seller payouts.
This guide explains how to register as a Rootsy seller, complete your business information, set up your store, add banking details, and activate your seller subscription.
Step 1: Visit Rootsy and Open Seller Registration

You will be directed to the dedicated seller login page.
Click Create New to begin registering your seller account.
Alternatively, you can look for Become Seller under the Seller Central section in the Rootsy website footer.
Important: Buyer and seller registration are separate processes. Make sure you select the seller registration option.
Step 2: Enter Your Personal and Business Information
The first stage of seller registration is Personal Information.
You will be asked to select your business type:

Ensure your documents are legible, current where required, and accurately reflect the information entered on your registration form.

Before continuing, review and accept:
Rootsy Seller Terms & Conditions

Other applicable Rootsy marketplace policies
After completing the required fields, proceed to the next registration stage.
Step 3: Set Up Your Rootsy Store
The next stage is Store Information.
This is where you enter details about your business and how your store will appear to buyers.
Store Name and Description
Provide:
Shop Name: The name customers will see on Rootsy.
Shop Description: A short description of your business and products.
Business Category: The category that best describes your business.
Choose a clear, professional shop name that represents your business.
Shop Preferences
Complete the requested settings, including:

Rootsy operates as a Canadian marketplace, with transactions conducted in Canadian dollars (CAD).
Business Information
You may also be asked to provide:
CRA Business Number and GST/HST registration status, where applicable.
Number of employees.
Last fiscal year's gross revenue or expected annual revenue for a new business.
Business street address.
City, province, and postal code.
Billing and Shipping Addresses
Indicate whether your billing address and shipping, pickup, drop-off, or return address are the same as your business address.
Where they differ, enter the applicable address information.
Review your store details carefully before continuing.
Step 4: Enter Your Banking Information
The next stage is Banking Information.
Rootsy requires seller banking information so eligible earnings can be paid out to your registered bank account.
You will be asked to provide:
Bank name.
Bank account number.
Transit number.
Institution number.
Bank address.
Ensure that all banking details are accurate.
Incorrect or incomplete information may delay or prevent payouts.
Important: Your payout bank account is separate from the payment method used to pay Rootsy subscription fees.
Step 5: Secure Your Seller Account
Rootsy offers two-factor authentication (2FA) to provide additional account security.
During registration, you may be prompted to select a verification method.
Rootsy recommends using an Authenticator App, such as Authy, to generate verification codes.
To configure authentication:
Select Authenticator App as your verification method.
Follow the instructions displayed on the screen.
Complete the verification process.
Select Finish when the setup is complete.
A Skip & Finish option may also be available.
Although this option allows you to complete registration without configuring 2FA at that stage, Rootsy strongly recommends enabling two-factor authentication to protect your seller account, store information, and financial details.
Never share your password or verification codes with anyone.
Step 6: Choose Your Seller Subscription Plan
Rootsy offers three seller subscription plans.
| Plan | Monthly subscription fee |
|---|---|
| Starter | $14.99 CAD |
| Growth | $29.99 CAD |
| Pro | $39.99 CAD |
All three plans include a six-month free trial for eligible new sellers.
The subscription selection page also allows sellers to compare available monthly and yearly billing options.
Review the current plan features, listing limits, and terms before selecting your preferred option.
For a detailed comparison, refer to the Seller Plans, Subscriptions and Fees section of the Rootsy Support Centre.
Step 7: Add Your Subscription Payment Method
After selecting your plan, you'll be directed to Rootsy's secure Stripe subscription checkout.
A valid supported payment method is required to activate your free trial.
Follow these steps:
Review your selected subscription plan.
Confirm the six-month free trial details.
Enter your payment information through Stripe.
Review the subscription terms, including the amount payable after the trial.
Click Start trial to activate your subscription.
When Will Subscription Charges Begin?
Your free trial lasts six months (180 days).
You will not be charged the subscription fee during the free-trial period.
After the free trial ends, subscription billing begins automatically according to your selected plan and billing schedule unless you cancel beforehand.
Important: The payment method provided during subscription checkout is used for subscription billing. It is not the bank account used to receive your product-sale payouts.
Step 8: Access Your Seller Dashboard
After completing the necessary onboarding and subscription activation steps, you can access your Rootsy Seller Dashboard.
The dashboard provides access to important seller features, including:
Dashboard: Review orders, earnings, and store performance.
Order: Manage and process customer orders.
Product: Create, review, and update product listings.
Withdraw: Review eligible balances and request payouts.
Store: Manage your storefront and business details.
Profile: Review your seller account information.
Subscriptions: Review and manage your subscription plan.
The availability of selling and payout functions may remain subject to applicable verification and account requirements.
Step 9: Prepare Your Store for Selling

Before offering products for sale:
Review Rootsy's Prohibited Products & Acceptable Use Policy.
Prepare accurate product descriptions and images.
Select the correct product categories.
Enter prices in Canadian dollars.
Set appropriate inventory quantities.
Provide accurate product dimensions and weight.
Review applicable shipping and fulfilment requirements.
Confirm your store and contact information are accurate.
Sellers are responsible for the accuracy, safety, legality, and fulfilment of the products they offer.
